Metamorphoses of Art: When AI Enters the Studio

Univercity Ostrava!!! stage

This project explores the impact of artificial intelligence on the creative process.

Drawing on data from exhibitions held at the FEIKA Gallery (VSB-TUO) and CIIRC CTU, the discussion will detail a process in which AI interprets visual art through linguistic descriptions to regenerate new images. This analysis aims to uncover the shifts in this “algorithmic translation”, identifying which elements of human imagination are lost and what unique features are synthesised by the technology.

Moving beyond generalities, the discussion will offer technical, artistic, and social perspectives on the phenomenon of generative AI and will be based on a specific experiment. By bridging two distinct worlds – represented by painter Klára Sedlo and cybernetics professor Radek Martinek – the talk will enable a broader contextual understanding of this topic.

The discussion will also address essential questions: Is genuine creativity possible for a machine? Does an algorithm truly “see” an image, or does it merely assemble patterns based on probability? And why, in an era when AI becomes expert at replicating artistic techniques, are the artist’s lived experience, intuition, and unique human perspective more vital than ever?
