It will focus on how a city can respond to the needs of those who move through the city on foot or by bicycle, creating an environment that is safe, legible, and welcoming for everyday life.
Special attention will be given to the topic of school streets as a concrete example of measures that calm traffic around schools, increase children’s safety, and support walking, staying in public spaces, and community life. The lecture will demonstrate how temporary adjustments, changes in traffic organization, street furniture, greenery, or colorful elements can serve as pilot projects leading to permanent transformations of specific places.
In the second part, the focus will shift to Ostrava and its potential to use tactical urbanism as a tool for transforming streets, squares, and school forecourts into places that are more oriented toward people than toward cars.
