Michael’s Mashup: Movie Science Fails

17:45 – 18:45 CURIOSITY STAGE BY AKADEMIE VĚD ČR

Science in Film: Why Are We Fascinated When Science Fails? Jan Kaufman from the HiLASE Centre at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Karel Och, Artistic Director of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, will discuss science in film, movie mistakes, special effects, and filmmaking. Expect both serious topics and lighter segments, so you will hopefully learn something new and have some fun along the way.

Michael’s Mashup. A talk show with a twist! Two guests. One moderator. And their interaction. A mashup is a genre of its own. Guests as you’ve never seen them before. A meeting of two worlds. A mashup of guests, genres, performers and audience, all in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.

At Meltingpot, we’ll be creating a mashup of science and art! In collaboration with the Czech Academy of Sciences, each festival day will bring together scientists and artists for unique conversations and encounters.

Jan Kaufman focuses on applied research into the use of lasers to extend the lifespan of metal components, particularly in 3D printing, toolmaking, aerospace, and the nuclear industry. His work has resulted in, among other achievements, two European patents.

Karel Och is a film historian, curator, and Artistic Director of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. He is also co-creator of the KVIFF.TV online platform and curator of the travelling film showcase Tady Vary.

Michael Rozsypal is a journalist and moderator and the creator of the talk show Michael’s Mashup. He spent two years as a host at DVTV and eight years at Czech Radio before that. Today, he moderates conferences, panel discussions, social events, and concerts in Prague and across the Czech Republic. He is also the author of two book-length interviews with Jindřich Šídlo and Tomáš Sedláček.
