She has been travelling to Tibet for more than twenty years and has spent several years there in total. In the Šluknov region near the town of Mikulášovice, she founded a centre dedicated to Asian culture and knowledge and organises the Eastern Tunes festival, which showcases the culture and history of Central and East Asia, with a special focus on Tibet. Visitors can explore a Tibetan House, an educational trail and even a herd of yaks.
Jarmila Ptáčková
A sinologist and Tibetologist at the Czech Academy of Sciences, her research focuses on how modernisation in western China affects the environment and the traditional way of life of Tibetan pastoral communities.
