Ostrava's Science and Technology Centre is a modern European science centre built in the unique environment of the Dolní Vítkovice industrial premises. It consists of two parts. The first of them, the U6 Small Science and Technology Centre was created in the refurbished giant hall of the former Power Exchange No. 6 and hosts a unique exhibition offering an opportunity to follow and touch the development of industry and technical progress. The Large Science and Technology Centre is two years younger. The modern building, awarded the Building of 2014 award, designed by the famous architect Josef Pleskot, is characterised by its unmistakable mirror façade, hiding four permanent interactive exhibitions – Children's World, the World of Science and Discoveries, the World of Civilisation and the World of Nature. Apart from hundreds of interactive exhibits there are also the largest Czech non-commercial 3D cinema, a Science Theatre as well as modern laboratories and classrooms used not only by schools but also by the general public. Dolní Vítkovice, including its Science and Technology Centre, is one of the main tourist attractions in the Czech Republic, welcoming more than 1.5 million visitors in 2018.
