Zar Electrik

Three personalities, three influences, one explosive collective. The story of Zar Electrik began in 2019 when Anass Zine and Arthur Penneau first met. A year later, during the lockdown, Didier Miosine joined the duo, stepping into the role of beatmaker.

The result is infectious music blending influences from the Maghreb, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Western culture. After uniting as a live band and performing nearly sixty shows in 2022, they released their debut EP Hawa, which was followed by several singles the next year.

Zar Electrik has captured the French music scene and made a mark internationally. Today, they are gearing up for a 16-stop tour across Canada. With their unique fusion of traditional instruments and songwriting techniques combined with modern beats and synthesizers, they engage audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Didier, who plays keyboards in the band, shares his knowledge by hosting workshops, a passion he’s been cultivating for over a decade. Arthur dove into music at eleven, mastering percussion, gnawa, rumba, and flamenco, and today also plays the koras. Anass focuses on vocals, guitar, oud, and even the gumbri, often drawing from folk themes and adapting them to contemporary Western music. And from this incredible creative mix, MUSIC is born. Call it world music if you like, but what truly matters is its power to stir emotions.
