Viktor Ori

Viktor Ori

This isn’t your typical story. At the start of 2023, after a decade on the scene, the Bratislava-based post-hardcore band Shallov reached the end of their journey. However, rather than disbanding, they underwent a remarkable transformation. They changed their concept, genre, and creative process, choosing to make a fresh start. With singer and guitarist Viktor Ori becoming the main creative force, the band rebranded under his name.

“I realized that waiting for everything to come together with the band was unrealistic – it might never happen, or it could take forever. So, I set a clear goal: the album would be finished within a year, and even before the songs were done, I booked the studio,” Ori explains.

The album Lepsie nebolo nikdy dobre nebude was released in December, and despite its late release, it managed to break into many Czech and Slovak charts. As its title suggests, the album isn’t exactly cheerful. Ori openly admits that the main inspiration came from Postalgia (2019) by Katarína Máliková. Viktor Ori naturally integrated into the circles around Kvlt crew and Berlin Manson, though his “solo” project and debut album have a slightly different feel – formally, not in terms of content.

“Ori fully understands that each of us is part of a puzzle, and if you don’t know your ‘shape,’ social criticism can easily slip into a complete misunderstanding of it. As an artist, Ori deconstructs the world very well, largely because he started by analyzing himself,” wrote the music site Hudba.sk about the album.
