The second wave of 2-day tickets WED–THU and FRI–SAT has rolled over and here we have the 3rd wave 🌊

Tomáš Jungwirth

He is Head of the Department of Spintronics and Nanoelectronics at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and a Professor at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom and Tohoku University in Japan.

He co-discovered the Spin Hall Effect, which forms the basis for a new generation of spintronic memory devices currently being developed by industry. Together with his colleagues, he also initiated the field of antiferromagnetic spintronics through the experimental demonstration of ultrafast memory bits. His most recent breakthrough, the discovery of a new fundamental form of magnetism known as altermagnetism, is also closely linked to spintronics. The discovery was named one of the Top 10 Breakthroughs of 2024 by the journal Science.

He has received funding from the European Research Council and is the recipient of the Neuron Award, the Czech Head National Government Award, and the Medal of Merit awarded by the President of the Czech Republic.
