Outlet Drift

Outlet Drift

Outlet Drift is a trio consisting of Wushang (guitar/vocals), Putad (bass/vocals), and Lin Ken (drums), three young indigenous Taiwanese musicians brought together by their shared love of experimental sounds.

Their music is a dynamic blend of contemporary rock and traditional Ami tribal elements, drawing from the roots of Taiwan’s largest indigenous group. With a deep connection to their heritage, the band infuses their compositions with the essence of Ami rituals and art, both in the way they craft their songs and the instruments they play. These musicians create their own unique tools from natural materials, pushing the boundaries of sonic innovation.

At the heart of Outlet Drift’s music is a commitment to authenticity and emotional honesty. Each performance is a deeply personal expression, allowing listeners to embark on a journey of self-discovery and connection. Their profound impact has been felt at major festivals like Primavera Sound in Barcelona, SXSW Sydney, and Seoul’s Music Week. Their latest release, the EP Drifting, explores the themes of wave, flow, and water through three songs, melding the past and present through a mixture of Ami, Mandarin, and English. This fusion creates an immersive soundscape that bridges ancestral wisdom and contemporary influences.

FUN FACT:  Ami folk music gained international recognition through the work of the married duo Difang and Igay Duana, whose vocals were sampled by Enigma in their track “Return to Innocence,” famously used in TV promos for the 1996 Summer Olympics.
