Nicoleta J. Economou-Zavlanos is Director of the Duke Health AI Evaluation & Governance Program and founder of the Algorithm-Based Clinical Decision Support (ABCDS) Oversight initiative. At Duke Health, she leads efforts to ensure the responsible integration of artificial intelligence into healthcare, developing frameworks for the evaluation, oversight, and governance of AI systems.
She serves on the Executive Committee of the NIH Bridge2AI Program, which advances the use of artificial intelligence in biomedical research. Recognized as a leading voice in health AI governance, she has contributed to the development of assurance frameworks and policies that support the safe, transparent, and ethical deployment of AI technologies.
Her research has been published in leading journals including NPJ Digital Medicine, JAMA, JAMA Health Forum, and JAMIA, reflecting her long-standing commitment to responsible innovation in healthcare AI.
