He seeks to understand why states behave the way they do. How the past shapes present-day decisions, why conflicts have a long memory, and why simple explanations in international politics usually fail.
He works at the Institute of Political Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, where he focuses on political geography, geopolitics, and the history of international relations, with a long-term emphasis on Russia and the post-Soviet space. Alongside his academic work, he regularly takes part in public debate as a commentator and external contributor to Deník N. He is also one of the voices behind the podcast Romancov & spol., where he and the foreign affairs desk discuss current conflicts and geopolitical developments in a broader context.
His perspective is grounded in a deep knowledge of history and an ability to see connections. He helps make sense of the world as it is – complex, often confusing, and full of decisions with long-lasting consequences.
