He graduated from the First Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague, where he worked for many years at the Third Department of Internal Medicine. From 2000 to 2022, he was affiliated with the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases in the United States, focusing on diabetes and the endocrinology of adipose tissue.
He currently serves as Head of the Diabetes Centre at the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKEM) in Prague. His work focuses primarily on obesity research, insulin resistance, and modern therapeutic approaches to the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. He is the author or co-author of more than 390 scientific publications and actively participates in international clinical studies.
As a member of numerous Czech and European professional societies, he contributes to the development of standards of care for patients with diabetes and metabolic diseases.
