MARKÉTA KRÁČMAROVÁ

HITCHHIKER AND WRITER

For her, hitchhiking is much more than a way of getting from one place to another. It is a way of getting closer to people, situations, and herself. With her thumb by the roadside, she has travelled across large parts of the world, collecting stories that emerge when we let go of control and allow curiosity, intuition, and trust to guide us.

She transformed these experiences into her book Palec v rohlíku (Thumb in a Bread Roll), a personal and candid travel memoir in which she writes about discomfort, awkwardness, and human connection. It explores the moments when our ideas of safety, freedom, and what we think “should” happen are put to the test.

She is not interested in how many countries someone has visited. What fascinates her is what happens when we stop following a plan, stop playing roles, and allow ourselves to be truly present in the moment.
