Martin Maok Tesák started playing guitar in the Bratislava alternative rock band Volvic Pič, which never recorded an official album but gained recognition among listeners by opening for the legendary Collegium Musicum. Today, Martin has been performing under the stage name Maok for over 17 years, creating improvised music with ethnic and experimental elements that naturally bring people together in the Světloleť community, encouraging relaxation and slow, flowing movement.
He has released 20 albums on Bandcamp, and his most famous compositions include I am your soul, Song of the Earth, and Teraz to Prezivaj. Maok composed the music for Juraj Jakubisko’s film Bathory and contributed his work to films by naturalist Tomáš Hulík and traveler Pavol Barabáš, specifically Premeny Tatier, Tatry zamrznuté v čase, Bhutan, and Ticho nad oblakmi. His strong yet gentle voice, combined with his delicate guitar playing, transports you to times long past, into a trance. In the Czech Republic and Slovakia, he composes music for theater and dance productions and also performs solo concerts.
