Mabe Fratti

Guatemalan experimental musician, singer, and cellist Mabe Fratti explores the concept of creating music free from planning and preconceptions on her ninth album Sentir Que No Sabes (2024). Pop melodies and post-rock elements intertwine with sonic detours that disrupt expectations, allowing space for discovery through spontaneity and improvisation.

For Fratti, the essence of music lies in searching for what she calls duende – a state of authentic, uncontrollable emotion. “Leave your troubles behind / Leave them in your liver / There is no lesson other than to understand / That everything will fall apart,” Fratti sings in the track Pantalla azul, which recalls the retro guitars of Danish composer ML Buch and American multi-instrumentalist Mk.gee.

Mabe Fratti has previously performed in the Czech Republic at two intimate concerts, but her performance at Colours of Ostrava will mark her festival debut. Currently, she is accompanied by Venezuelan producer and partner Héctor Tosta, also known as I. La Católica, who contributes to some of the instrumental arrangements, as well as Mexican drummer Gibrán Andrade. In addition to her solo work, Fratti is involved in the projects Titanic and Amor Muere and has collaborated with German experimentalist Gudrun Gut. This year, she also surprised listeners with a single alongside Lucrecia Dalt. With such a strong reputation, Fratti even curated part of the program at the prestigious Le Guess Who? festival last year.
