His research focuses on the mechanisms by which organisms lose the ability to reproduce sexually. This phenomenon is common in plants and fungi and can also occur in cloned organisms descended from a single ancestor, such as Dolly the sheep. Particularly remarkable is the reproduction of the edible frog population in the Poodří region, where only males are present and no females occur. These frogs reproduce with the help of females from another species. Lukáš Choleva studies this phenomenon both in the field and through laboratory experiments.
