“What do you see in the mirror? / What do you see when you look at me? / I carry wounds / from what you call love.” Mexican singer Luisa Almaguer knows that everything she creates, every song she writes, is a political act. An advocate for trans rights, she identifies as a feminist, speaks openly about privilege and works to challenge dominant social narratives. In 2018, she launched the first Latin American podcast dedicated to stories from the trans community. A year later, she released her second album, Mataronomatar, while her most recent record, Weyes (2024), received praise from outlets including Rolling Stone, Remezcla, KEXP and El País. That same year, she performed at Mexico’s Bahidorá festival alongside Damon Albarn and Africa Express, a collaboration that also captivated audiences at Slovakia’s Pohoda festival in 2025.
Reflecting on the experience in an interview with Full Moon magazine, Almaguer described it as a life-changing opportunity to work with artists from around the world and discover music as a truly universal language. She continues to collaborate with Albarn while also pursuing ambitions in filmmaking. Making her Czech debut at Colours of Ostrava with her own band, she will bring a powerful blend of folk, shoegaze, grunge and hyperpop, creating a performance that is as urgent as it is uplifting.
