Libor Bouček

One of the Czech Republic’s best-known moderators needs little introduction. Radio listeners know his voice, television audiences know his face, and visitors to some of the country’s biggest cultural, social, and sporting events know him from the stage. At Meltingpot, he introduces himself in his own words.

I started in the Disman Radio Children’s Ensemble, which for me was much more than an after-school activity. It was a formative school of life. It taught me how to speak, but above all how to listen. To read a situation, to pay attention to the people around me, and to respect the space I am in. Perhaps that is why I see moderating more as a service than as my own show.

What I enjoy is its many different forms. In radio, you work with voice and imagination; in television, with energy and pace. Each has its own rules, but the foundation is always the same: communication. The effort to be clear, natural, and to stay connected with the people on the other side. To let go of the fact that I am the moderator and simply ask questions the way a listener or viewer would.
