A seven-piece collective based in Gdańsk, on Poland’s Baltic coast, Klawo emerged from a city where salty sea air meets a vibrant student and creative scene. Their sound draws inspiration from the 1970s, weaving together funk, soul, fusion and psychedelia while embracing electronic textures, indie-pop flourishes and laid-back rap flows. Since debuting four years ago, they have released two albums, a live record and a string of singles. Their latest release, the three-track EP Osaka Cuts (2025), effortlessly blends all of these influences while adding drum & bass rhythms and playful pseudo-Japanese pop melodies. Luxury cuts indeed.
There is a reason Klawo performed at Expo 2025 in Osaka, appeared at the renowned Montreux Jazz Festival and were featured on the Tiny Desk Concerts platform. Sharing Poland’s thriving contemporary scene with acts such as EABS and Immortal Onion, they have built a reputation that now resonates across Europe. Their ever-expanding “Klawoverse” extends into witty music videos, while the band members openly celebrate their love of saunas, Czech beer and “jednorymowy joint”, the title of one of their tracks. Asked by Full Moon magazine to describe their music with a single image, they did not hesitate for a second: “A turtle eating watermelon on a beach.”
