Kateřina Surmanová

writer, screenwriter, and journalist

From film dramaturgy to journalism and literature. She studied Theory and History of Dramatic Arts at Palacký University Olomouc, specialising in Irish cinema, and has worked as a film festival dramaturge, screenwriter, and editor. She was part of the editorial teams of Hospodářské noviny and Lidové noviny, where she headed the domestic news desk.

Kateřina Surmanová is the author of the mystery trilogy Šepot z lesa, Zvedá se vítr and Tři Sekery, the standalone novel Slepé cesty, the children’s environmental detective story Nártoun a Outloň, and the successful radio miniseries O čem skály mlčí for Czech Radio. She is also the patron of the nationwide literary competition Max & Franz for secondary school students and the author of numerous published short stories.
