Julie Nekola Nováková

She works as a science communicator at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and is also involved in the 4EU+ DRAKE research project at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague, where she teaches part of the course Introduction to Astrobiology.

In addition to lectures and articles, her science communication activities include writing the storyboard for the comic book Mysteries of the Nanoworld and organising the science-theatre festival Behind the Curtain of Science, where her play Martians, about nuclear physicist Leo Szilard, premiered. She has also ventured into audio drama with the series Martian Fever, released by Audioteka.cz in autumn 2025.

She is a member of the art-and-science project team of the European Astrobiology Institute. Alongside her science communication work, she is an author, editor, and translator. She has published eleven novels, dozens of short stories in both Czech and English, and one short-story collection. Her stories have been translated into more than ten languages. In 2027, her first children’s book will be published, fittingly with a scientific theme: Fairy Tales from the Milky Way.
