JOSEF ŠLERKA

SEMIOTICIAN AND DIGITAL MEDIA EXPERT

He has long operated at the intersection of media, data, and human behavior. He is interested in why we behave the way we do online – and why it so often does not end well.

He is one of the most influential figures in Czech digital thinking. For many years, he headed the New Media Studies program at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, where he continues to work as a lecturer today. He works with data from social networks, seeking connections related to disinformation, conspiracy theories, and the ways opinions and emotions are shaped online.

He does not try to simplify or moralize the digital world. Instead, he acts as a guide who explains with perspective what is really happening in digital spaces – and shows that understanding data and context is often far more useful today than making quick judgments.
