AI in Healthcare: Help, Hype or Harm?

18:30 – 19:30 GAMECHANGERS STAGE

Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming healthcare—from improving diagnostics and personalizing treatment to streamlining operations and enabling entirely new models of care. Yet alongside its promise comes a growing set of concerns: bias and inequity, opacity of algorithms, safety risks, regulatory uncertainty, and the potential for unintended consequences at scale. How do we distinguish genuine progress from hype? And how do we ensure that innovation does not outpace accountability?

In this panel, Dr. Nicoleta Economou and Martin Palicka will engage in a thoughtful and practical discussion at the intersection of technology and medicine. Drawing on their complementary expertise, they will explore where AI is already delivering meaningful clinical and operational value, where expectations may be inflated, and where real risks demand careful oversight.

The conversation will focus on actionable strategies for designing, evaluating, and implementing AI systems that are safe, equitable, and aligned with human needs. Topics will include governance frameworks, transparency and trust, human-centered design, and the roles of clinicians, health systems, industry, and regulators in shaping responsible AI.

Ultimately, this session asks a critical question: How can we move beyond the dichotomy of help versus harm to build AI that truly serves patients, clinicians, and society? Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of both the opportunities and responsibilities that come with integrating AI into healthcare—and what it will take to get it right.

🇬🇧 The discussion will be held in English.
