They used to resist the boyband label. Now they’re making it their own, even naming one of their songs after it. The four friends from Sydney grew up on pop-punk, guitars and writing their own songs, went on to conquer charts around the world and have racked up more than 10 billion streams over more than 15 years together. On their album EVERYONE’S A STAR!, they’re playing with their own image and poking fun at celebrity culture. If you’re going to be a star, you might as well have a sense of humour about it.
In recent years, 5 Seconds of Summer have also explored solo projects, so when all four showed up together again, the internet started talking about a comeback. There was just one small catch: they’d never actually split up. Touché. Their live shows are about more than just the songs, too. On a previous tour, they let fans choose the next song with a giant inflatable die and threw in a few comedy sketches along the way. They haven’t revealed what they have up their sleeves for Colours yet. We’re happy to be surprised.
