"I don't consider myself a messenger of any message and I don't try to communicate with people in a way that I tell them what to do. I don't want to put myself in the position of an activist. But it's definitely important for me to be emotionally open and show vulnerability. If my songs can have a positive effect on people and, for example, make them feel less alone, then that's a beautiful thing," London-based David Žbirka told Full Moon about his work. The city and its music scene got under his skin and it all crystallised in the band Sunnbrella. The international ensemble's work fuses shoegaze and dream pop with a 90s aesthetic that seeps into both the dance elements of each song and the music videos. The video for the band's biggest hit Fever Dream speaks for itself.

Sunnbrella released their debut album Heartworn early last year. This was followed by gigs all over the Czech Republic, but also in their home town of London, Montreal and New York. In the process, David managed to win four Anděl Awards for his father Miró Zbirka's posthumous album, Posledné veci, which he co-wrote and produced. Most recently, in early February, the band released the single Have Your Say, which espouses electronica more than ever. Oliver Torr took care of the production. And although Žbirka himself says that the line-up of his band is highly variable, there is no doubt that at Colours he will take us to the heavily hazy realm of shoegazing, whatever line-up he arrives with. Boredom is not a threat, daydreaming is.
