Anna Vaverková

Czech Republic

Anna Vaverková is a Czech singer-songwriter and producer who studied music in Berlin, where she co-founded the band The Flavians, with whom she even played at Glastonbury. Then she opened her own recording studio and in 2022 released her solo EP Roztomilá holka (Cute Girl), which earned her three prestigious nominations: for Vinyl for Discovery of the Year, Apollo for Best Single of the Year and the Anděl Award in the Alternative and Electronica category. The same was repeated at the beginning of this year, when last year's long-playing debut Greetings from the reformatory, which featured producer Liam Blomqvist and other respected musicians such as Tomas Liska, Tobias Humble, Kelly O'Donohue and Andy Aquarius, scored. What expert critics have concluded, attendees of her club and festival concerts have known for some time: that when she appears on stage, a quiet amazement hits a very diverse audience.

It's not only the distinctive expression, which has no comparison on stage, but also the lyrics, which move on the unusual edge of self-irony. "I want what I write to be an observation. Of course, one is never impartial, so I can't say impartial observation, but I want it to be as impartial as possible, because that's the only way I can get anywhere by trying to observe a situation impartially. Maybe I'm bullshitting. Cute girl - I'm criticizing here. But that's so terribly retrospective that I can afford to look back and criticize myself and the environment I grew up in. I'm looking back at what shaped me as a girl, as a woman, and what was wrong with going on dates or just going out with guys. I was actually looking back at what wasn't really okay or what I think today is not right and what maybe shaped me in the wrong direction," Anna Vaverka told Full Moon in an interview. And more than one listener feels they have been shaped in a similar way.
