Aurora isn’t shy about admitting who her role models are - Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen - though she’s more frequently compared to Kate Bush and Björk owing to her pure, almost childlike vocals and highly charged emotions. When asked what inspires her, her response is pretty simple “It’s not about who. Everything is a source of inspiration for me. Nature, open spaces, the moon, family, people I see around me. Many songs are inspired by my own experiences and many not. They’re basically all the emotions and events I need to get out of my head.” By now most of us are aware that Northern European pop comes in darker, more melancholic hues. And with a distinctly fairy-tale vibe on top of this, it’s easy to see why Aurora’s debut album is called All My Demons Greeting Me As A Friend - a wonderful fit for the dark pop subgenre.
