Lake Malawi

Lake Malawi are an indie-pop band singing in English, founded in 2013 by Albert Černý and Jeroným Šubrt (after the break-up of Charlie Straight). With the song "Friend of a Friend", they represented the Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, where they came 11th in the final.

On their new album "The Great Video Game Crush" (October 2022), they collaborated with The 1975 saxophonist John Waugh, whom Lake Malawi met at their club gig in Newcastle, England.

Lake Malawi played over 300 concerts in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, Israel, Holland, Spain, UK and other countries. They have supported Thirty Seconds to Mars, The Kooks and Mike.

The single "High-Speed Kissing" (feat. We Are Domi) from the current album was among the most played songs in the Czech airwaves for several weeks. Lake Malawi's music is regularly played on Evropa 2, ČRo, Fajn rádio or Expres FM, you can also hear it in many Czech films or as a jingle in Leo Express trains (Chinese Trees).

Currently Lake Malawi performs in a five-piece line-up with guitarist David Kandler, drummer Pavel Plasil (alternated by Vit Skalička) and Jan Uvira on keyboards. Albert Černý (vocals and guitar) together with Jeronym Šubrt (bass guitar) is the author of most of the songs and they also participate in the creation of Lake Malawi as producers.
