Good afternoon, Jana. First, we\u2019d like to thank you for taking the time to speak with us during the preparations for this year\u2019s Designblok. To start, could you tell us what Colours means to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, Colours is always about the unique festival grounds, where music, talks, debates, food, and thousands of people come together. It\u2019s a truly immersive experience. At the same time, I can\u2019t resist a little morning walk in the Beskydy hills near \u010celadn\u00e1.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

You mentioned you won\u2019t be missing this year\u2019s festival either, which we\u2019re very pleased to hear! Are there any concerts or talks from previous years that left a strong impression on you or inspired you in some way?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There have been so many! Sam Smith, Lenny Kravitz, lectures on longevity and technology, Dany Dr\u00e1bov\u00e1 explaining how a nuclear reactor works, and the theatre performance by Marta Ad\u00e9la Stodolov\u00e1. It\u2019s always a powerful mix of emotion and intellect.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And what are you looking forward to this year?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From this year\u2019s music programme, I\u2019m excited to hear Korean composer Jung Jaeil performing with the Jan\u00e1\u010dek Philharmonic Orchestra \u2014 perfect for listening \u2014 and Sofi Tukker, who\u2019s great for dancing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ll catch some talks at Meltingpot<\/strong> too; it\u2019s always an inspiring experience. This year, I\u2019m making my debut there and will be actively involved \u2014 we\u2019ll be launching a book by Sv\u011btlana Witowsk\u00e1<\/strong>, who chose inspiring Czech women and wrote a collection of interviews about them. We\u2019re also organising a discussion related to the Czech Grand Design Awards<\/strong> with the 2024 Designer of the Year, Kate\u0159ina Handlov\u00e1, and the Manufacturer of the Year, the brand Master & Master<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m planning to see the theatre production \u017d\u00e1by<\/em> with Ivan Trojan<\/a> as well. It\u2019s funny how I usually catch shows in Ostrava that I missed in Prague. As always, it promises to be a colourful experience!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That sounds fantastic. Finally, may we ask what exciting things we can expect at this year\u2019s Designblok?<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s edition will feature major international design figures, such as Patricia Urquiola, who will personally receive the Designblok Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as Erwan Bouroullec, Sabine Marcelis, and many others. We\u2019ll showcase a photography exhibition by Mary McCartney, highlight emerging European talents in the Designblok Diploma Selection competition, and present top Czech designers and makers working with traditional crafts.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accompanying programme will also include lectures, discussions on design and architecture, and a special thematic exhibition, Between Unity and Diversity, focusing on the work of women in architecture and design. Among those featured will be Eva Ji\u0159i\u010dn\u00e1, Eva Eisler, Lib\u011bna Rochov\u00e1, Lucie Koldov\u00e1, B\u00e1ra Pr\u00e1\u0161ilov\u00e1, and others.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival takes place in exceptional venues \u2014 Prague Castle, the Museum of Decorative Arts, Rudolfinum Gallery, and Prague Exhibition Grounds. Wallpaper magazine called Designblok \u201cthe most playful festival in the world.\u201d This year, the stakes are high \u2014 after all, the theme is Courage.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
