Musical bliss for the head, heart and legs, paying tribute to the past yet pumped up with plenty of go-get-em adrenaline for the future.

The French electronic wizard, musician and singer Anthony Gonzalez is somewhat partial to the sounds of the 80s, not to mention film soundtracks. “Stay calm, hold me tight” reveals the voice in OK Pal and everyone is aware just how absurd this sounds. How can you take care of anyone when you’re being ejected into the M83 air chamber? In the company of Peter Gabriel, Jean-Michel Jarre, Sigur Rós, New Order, U2 and the Smashing Pumpkins, Gonzales detonates his bombastic supernovas into the ether, but he is capable of more. Just when you think you’re completely stuffed with emotion, Gonzales goes in for another round, making you realise what came before were just the appetisers. According to the artist, he is merely transforming space dreaming into his own riveting earthly version of ecstasy - the only problem is that you’ve most likely never heard such an escalating sound mass of synthesisers, guitars, vocals and euphoric choruses. And that’s a pretty ambitious challenge, especially when M83 is presenting his new album Junk.
