Bratři Ebenové

Czech Republic

In 2014, the Eben Brothers released a new album, Čas holin, and celebrated 30 years since the release of their first album, „Malé písně do tmy“(1984). At the time of the release of the album „Malé písně do tmy", the band was a brotherly trio - Marek, Kryštof and David - and they were quite unique on the Czech music scene in their approach. The sons of the important composer Petr Eben (1929 - 2007) received a classical musical education, but at the same time they absorbed the influences of modern folk, jazz and rock music. Their ability to draw from all these sources and their ability to use various unusual musical instruments has created an absolutely unconventional, inimitable "Eben sound" on the Czech scene. Moreover, in combination with Marek's exceptional lyrics, the Eben Brothers were a revelation for the folk scene.

The band is in no hurry to release new albums, but the wait is all the more worthwhile. The next album was released eleven years later in collaboration with Karel Plihalo - "Tichá domácnost" (1995). The album already featured musicians from the band ETC... and, as on the previous album, the double bassist Jaromír Honzák. They still cooperate with the band today. So also on the following albums "Já na tom dělám"  (2002).

After the release of the album, the Eben Brothers started to perform again, recorded a concert DVD "Ebeni v zahradě" (2004), recorded music for a new series of evening cartoons Mach a Šebestová, for the fairy tale CD "Pohádky bratří Grimmů" (with songs by the Eben Brothers), several audiobooks (Muž, který sázel stromy, Adventní kalendář) and also music for the Czech Television series "Poste Restante". In 2008 a very successful album "Chlebíčky" was released. In October 2014, the current album "Čas holin" was released.

Apart from the trio of the Eben brothers - i.e. Marek, Krystof and David - the band consists of rhythm guitarists working, among others, in Vladimir Misik's band ETC - Jiri Zelenka (drums, percussion) and Pavel Skala (acoustic and electric guitars). The band is now inseparably complemented by an excellent jazz double bassist Jaromír Honzák.
