Wolf was born in Pretoria, South Africa to a nurturing mother and a troubled father. Her childhood was a nomadic series of events often inspired by her father’s demons chasing their family to leave town in a blind hurry. Her early music reflected a deep hurt that translated into an aggressive stage performance and eventually matured in her hypnotic stage persona.
Wolf has in her early life as a performer took part in talent shows and signed her first record deal at age fifteen with Gresham Records as the front-woman for her then band “Mel-funktion”. Her singles: Take Me Away and Breath On Me topped South Africa’s single charts and she was noticed by fans and industry professionals alike. Wolf, as the front-woman for Mel-funktion, toured South Africa and played in various iconic venues. Wolf was honoured by Global Harmony as an asset to South African culture and commissioned to represent South Africa in Japan where she performed in front of Japanese Ministers of State. In 2007 Wolf signed her first publishing deal with Active Music and honed her songwriting and composer skills on multiple media platforms.
In 2012 Wolf was signed to South Africa’s leading record label, Just Music. She worked with industry legend Karl Anderson and producer Matthew Fink to establish her previous performance persona, “Tailor”. Her 2013 debut album Dark Horse was nominated twice at the SAMA’s (South African Music Awards), she received another 2015 SAMA nomination for her second album Light, and a 2017 SAMA nomination for her latest album Trust Pt. 1.
In 2015 Wolf was signed to South Africa’s top management company Real Concerts and worked with company founder, Roddy Quin to build her as an international act.
In 2016 Wolf aka Tailor recorded her third album titled Trust Pt. 1 with producer Zak Loy (lead guitarist for the multi-platinum American band, LIVE) in Austin Texas at the infamous recording facilities, Orb studios. She collaborated on Trust Pt. 1 with various musicians ranging from bassist, Ainar Peterson (Kelly Clarkson) to drummer, Antoun Ramy (Seal, Black Eyed Peas) amongst others. She was asked to collaborate live and/or in studio with various world renowned performers, producers and industry leaders such as LIVE front man, Ed Kowalczyk’s, Ken Stringfellow from R.E.M, American band; Kongos, and Grammy nominated music producer Tim Palmer (David Bowie, Pearl Jam, U2).
Wolf recently collaborated with Jamie Morrison drummer for Stereophonics, as well as renowned producer Pete Boxta Martin (Sugababes, Jesse J, DJ Marshmellow). Her singles, “Shaped like a Gun” and the track, “Wolf" from her album “The Dark Horse” featured on FOX Network’s hit show, “So You Think You Can Dance” for 2 seasons.
She performed solo shows at various iconic London venues, including The Bedford, The Troubadour and The Half Moon and performed in high profile festivals including Austin Texas SXSW, South African’s OppiKoppi and The Real Concert Series in The United Kingdom and South Africa.
In 2017 she was asked to open for Johnny Clegg on his final tour played to sold-out audiences in South Africa and London’s exemplary Apollo Theatre in Hammersmith. In 2018 she toured South Africa to sold-out venues, and proofed to draw crowds in the United Kingdom and her demand in Europe is steadily increasing and she was commissioned to perform in the Netherlands.
Wolf was asked to join the infamous American band, The Posies on their 30th anniversary tour across the United Kingdom. In 2018 she followed her heart to London where her talent as a songwriter and performer was recognised by producer and remixer Pete Boxta Martin. Boxta Martin offered her a production deal under his company Three Bears Entertainment the day after she sent him a cellphone video of a song she wrote and performed in an acoustically unique bathtub.
Believer was born in studio that week, and some of the noise Wolf made in the tub even made it into Boxta Martin’s explosive final mix. Boxta Martin was ignited to create an EP with Wolf that will be released in 2018.
In 2019, the award presented by UNSIGNED ONLY (www.unsignedonly.com) announced ANNA WOLF as GRAND PRIZE WINNER 2019. For the first time in Unsigned Only’s history, the 2019 Grand Prize was awarded to a South African artist, for her song “Believer.” Unsigned Only’s judging panel is an illustrious collection of global celebrity judges and this year included the likes of Robert Smith (The Cure) and Aimee Mann.
