We were hoping, we had faith… but here comes reality. It is with the deepest regret that we have to reveal to you that due to the Covid-19 related restrictions, the 19th edition of Colours of Ostrava is postponed to July 14 - 17, 2021.
I am fully aware that, the same as me, you couldn’t wait for a great festival summer. For the whole past year my team has been working hard on making the 2020 festival one of a kind, with exquisite line ups and a great deal of surprises. We were sure that the 2020 program was the best in our history. Now we have found ourselves in a situation that doesn’t allow us to accomplish our efforts due to safety issues, we are in no way in control. We’re not alone in this though, this will be a summer without festivals around the world. Everyone around the globe isolated, an unprecedented situation for the past fifty years at least.
We have already starting working on postponing the festival to 2021, including the headliners and as many other artists as possible. So far, the artists’ managements are very cooperative and we have hope that the whole music sector will get through this with a sense of togetherness. We won’t let the 2020 program become nothing but posters and we will do our best to make it happen next year.
I do have a huge favour to ask, though. Please, support us now. We will hardly make this without your solidarity. Unfortunately, there is no pandemics insurance and the deposits we have paid to bands amount to large sums of money. The tickets you have purchased remain valid for 2021 and I will consider it an act of utmost solidarity if you keep them and thus support the idea of our festival and its exceptional four-day program. I fully understand that many of you, like us, have found yourself in a difficult situation and will be forced to ask us for reimbursement. Update: Should this be your case please write to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than June 20, 2020. We also kindly ask you not to contact the ticket sales networks as we need to handle this directly. If you are struggling with serious financial issues, do get in touch, we will try to handle your case individually as soon as we can.
In the months to come it is you who will decide about our future. By retaining your ticket for the next summer, you will help us keep the idea alive, the way it’s always been. Music events are all about emotions - we are euphoric when we manage to organise a great festival, we are down when the artist and the audience don’t click. We beg the rain to be merciful and the artists to give us the maximum. This situation is out of the ordinary, no leeway for negotiation. A year’s work simply evaporating in front of our eyes and us left in a state of helplessness.
It is no secret that postponing the festival less than three months before the original date, with a large part of agreements agreed and things organised, is an excruciating challenge. Not only for us but also for the artists, our suppliers, colleagues, temps and hundreds of other people make the festival network. Still we remain optimistic - with you and all our partnering institutions behind our back we will make it, it’s just going to happen a year later. Patience will bring us back together, with you, to whom we can’t be more grateful.
Take care of yourselves, your loved ones and your friends, stay fit and optimistic. We will meet at the greatest edition of Colours of Ostrava, in July 2021 in Dolní Vítkovice.
